Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain the polymer of high water absorptivity for aqueous polyelectrolyte solutions such as in the form of seawater, blood, sweat or urine, thus useful for paper diapers, etc., by copolymerization between ampho-ionic vinyl monomer having both anionic and cationic groups, another vinyl monomer and crosslinkable monomer.
CONSTITUTION: The copolymer can be obtained by copolymerization between (A) 10-99.995mol% of ampho-ionic vinyl monomer having in the identical monomer both anionic and cationic groups, e.g. of the formula [R1 is H or methyl; R2 is 0-6C alkylene or (substituted) phenylene; R3 and R4 are each 1-6C alkyl, (substituted) phenyl, etc.; R5 is 2-10C alkylene, (substituted) phenylene, etc.; X is ester, amide or (substituted) phenylene; Y is O or single bond] [e.g. dimethyl-(2-methacryloyloxyethyl)-1-(3-sulfopropyl)ammonium inner salt], (B) 0-89.995mol% of another vinyl monomer (e.g. methacrylamid) and (C) 0.005-1mol% of a crosslinkable monomer (e.g. diallyl succinate).
