Abstract:

To provide an electrolytic electrode which has an intermediate layer with peeling resistance and corrosion resistance more excellent than those of the conventional electrolytic electrode, has an electrolysis life longer than that of the the conventional electrolytic electrode and allows to flow a large electric current in an industrial level; and to provide its production method.

In a valve metal or valve metal alloy electrode base material 1 on which an intermediate layer composed of a previously formed metal oxide layer or a metal oxide layer 3 obtained by applying a metal compound convertible into metal oxide and thereafter oxidizing the surface so as to be integrated and a high temperature oxide film 2 as oxide derived from the base material is formed; the surface of the metal oxide layer is coated with an electrode catalyst layer 4 to be the electrolytic electrode. The high temperature oxide film is integrated with the electrode base material to improve its peeling resistance, and further, by previously forming the metal oxide layer or applying the metal compound convertible into metal oxide and thereafter heating the same, the high temperature oxide film whose electron conductivity is originally inferior in itself is modified, so that the electron conductivity is increased and a large electric current can be allowed to flow. The intermediate layer protects the electrode base material, and extends the electrolysis life.
