To solve problems such as a small ion exchange quantity which is the maximum defect of a fluoropolymer ion exchange membrane, an insufficient water-retaining property, and a low oxidation-resistant property which is the maximum defect of a hydrocarbon monomer-grafted fluoro ion exchange membrane.
This fluoropolymer ion exchange membrane produced by subjecting a fluoropolymer as a substrate to a radiation graft copolymerization using a fluoromonomer having a functional group such as a halogen group, converting the halogen groups or the like in the graft chains into sulfonate groups in a sulfite or bisulfite solution or the like, and further converting the sulfonate groups into sulfonic groups. The fluoropolymer ion exchange membrane preferably has a graft rate of 10 to 150% and an ion exchange quantity of 0.3 to 3.0 meq/g. A method for producing the fluoropolymer ion exchange membrane is provided.
