To provide an electromagnetic brake having a reduced axial length leading to a smaller device and eliminating noises.
The electromagnetic brake comprises an armature formed in a circular shape with its outer peripheral face as a tapered face, an elastic member for energizing the armature to one direction along the axial direction, a coil to be excited for moving the armature against the energizing force of the elastic member to the other direction along the axial direction, and a pin structured part opposed to the tapered face of the armature and adapted to be energized outward to the radial direction perpendicular to the axial direction via the tapered face with the movement of the armature to one direction along the axial direction for braking a rotor.
