To provide an electromagnetic device which can continuously increase and decrease a reactance value without being influenced by a current of an AC main winding and reduces control loss.
The electromagnetic device has a structure in which an AC main winding and a DC control winding are wound to form a two-by-two matrix magnetic core, AC main magnetic fluxes of the main winding oppose at a cross point of a first straight line magnetic path of a cross of the two-by-two matrix to return four closed magnetic paths symmetrically, and DC control magnetic fluxes by the control winding return two closed magnetic paths through a second straight line magnetic path of the cross in one direction. A bias magnetic flux is imparted to a returned magnetic path of the DC control magnetic flux, and a reactance of the main magnetic flux is continuously increased or decreased from a predetermined value depending on a direction of a control current of the control winding.
