The electromagnetic plunger is composed of a main body, a rest, an iron core, a rib part, a spring, and a cover. The main body has a cylindrical bobbin having a coil wound therearound. The main body may include a yoke and a pipe. The rest is fixed to the inside of one end of the bobbin. The iron core is inserted from the other end of the bobbin and is attracted toward the rest by exciting the coil wound around the bobbin. The rib part is provided in an outer end part of the iron core. The rib part may be directly provided in the outer end part of the iron core or may be provided in a link lever coupled to the outer end part of the iron core. The spring applies a force to the iron core in such a direction that the iron core is separated from the rest. The cover has an opening facing the rib part and covers the outer end part of the iron core. This opening is smaller than the rib part.
