To provide an electromagnetic relay having a shape of a contact and its surrounding part which sharply cuts an arc when the electromagnetic relay moves from a connected state to a disconnected state, namely, to improve a disconnection property.

(1) For the electromagnetic relay 10 having a fixed contact 16 and a movable contact 17 enabled to move against the fixed contact 16, the shape of the cross section of at least either one of the contact of the fixed contact 16 and the movable contact 17, and the shape of the cross section of at least either one of contact holding bodies 20, 21 holding the above contacts, is formed to have a slanted surface 40 slanting so as to get thinner as it is headed for the top end. (2) The electromagnetic relay is a both-side-cutting plunger type electromagnetic relay. (3) The electromagnetic relay is used for an electric power system driving an electric automobile.
