To provide an electromagnetic switch capable of efficiently outputting suction force by a small stroke, without requiring the formation of a guide face to guide a movable iron core into an excitation coil.

An electromagnetic switch comprises: a contact device 1 which has a pair of fixed contacts 4a and 4b fixed in an arc-extinguishing chamber container 3 with a predetermined gap therebetween, and a movable contact 5 arranged to be attachable to or detachable from the pair of fixed contacts; an electromagnet device 2 which drives the movable contact 5. The electromagnet device 2 has: a cylindrical excitation coil 11; a fixed iron core 12 passing through the center of the excitation coil 11; a magnetic yoke 13 covering the outer side of the excitation coil 11; and a movable iron core 14 facing the fixed iron core 12 and the magnetic yoke 13. Contact surfaces of the fixed iron core 12 and the magnetic yoke 13 are formed closer to the contact device side than to the excitation coil 11.
