To provide a thin electromagnetic wave absorber which absorbs electromagnetic waves at a single or a plurality of desired frequencies.
The electromagnetic wave absorber has such a structure that an outside pattern layer 5 having a conductive pattern 12, an electromagnetic wave absorption layer 4, a dielectric layer 3, and a conductive reflection layer 2, are stacked in this order from the electric wave incident side. The electromagnetic wave absorption layer 4 contains a magnetic-loss material such as ferrite, and a synthetic resin or rubber. The electromagnetic wave absorber is designed by using a complex specific dielectric coefficient (' and ") and the complex relative permeability (μ' and μ") of a material constituting the electromagnetic wave absorption layer 4 and the dielectric layer 3 other than a pattern shape. Particularly, by making the material having the complex relative permeability (μ' and μ") approach the conductive pattern 12, the electromagnetic wave absorption layer 4 is set to be thin, and diagonal incidence characteristics are improved and superior absorption properties can be achieved for two or more matching frequencies.
