Abstract:

An electron beam installation (10), which is used for working powdered material, has a powder container (18, 19, 20), which can receive a powder bed (22) of the powdered material to be worked. It also has an electron beam generator (14), which is designed to direct an electron beam (16) onto laterally different locations of the powder bed (22). To reduce blowing away of the powdered material during working with the electron beam, the electron beam installation (14) has a frit device (34, 35), which by applying an AC voltage between at least two electrodes (19, 30, 31) produces at least in certain regions over the powder bed (22) an alternating electromagnetic field that bonds the powdered material of the powder bed (22).
