The electron emitting element 1 includes the electron acceleration layer 4 between an electrode substrate 2 and a thin film electrode 3, and the electron acceleration layer 4 contains a binder component 15 in which insulating particulates 5 and conductive particulates 6 having the average particle diameter smaller than the average particle diameter of the insulating particulates 5 are dispersed. Then, in the electron acceleration layer 4, conductive particulates 6 are dispersed more on the thin film electrode 3 side.
