To provide an electron emitting element in which distortion in the route of electron beams and the deterioration of image quality due to electrification of a spacer are prevented by suppressing the electrification of the spacer, and also to provide its manufacturing method.
The electron emitting element includes: first and second substrates that are arranged oppositely to each other; an electron emitting part formed on the first substrate; a driving electrode which is formed on the first substrate and in which emission of electrons of the electron emitting part is controlled; a focusing electrode that is formed on the upper part of the driving electrode interposing an insulating layer and that has an opening part for the passage of the electron beams; a light-emitting unit formed on the surface of the second substrate opposed to the first substrate; and a plurality of spacers which are arranged between the first substrate and the second substrate and in which a conductive layer is formed on the surface. At this time, the focusing electrode and the insulating layer are provided with a spacer loading part and house the bottom end part of the spacer, a conductive adhesive layer is packed into the spacer loading part, and the conductive layer of the spacer and the focusing electrode are electrically coupled to each other.
