To illuminate a plurality of liquid crystal cells with uniform brightnesses, in an electronic apparatus having the plurality of liquid crystal cells and independent illuminating means for illuminating the cells respectively.
Control is performed correlating the brightnesses of illumination of the liquid crystal cells with physical quantities such as area and transmittance of the liquid crystal cells. Illumination of uniform brightnesses can be acquired by controlling the quantity of emitted light of each illumination so that the brightness of illumination to be used for a liquid crystal having a large area becomes large, and that the brightness of illumination to be used for a liquid crystal having a small area becomes small, if the electronic apparatus has two liquid crystal cells one of which has a large area and the other has a small area. Concretely, a drive time is made proportional to the display area of each liquid crystal cell.
