PURPOSE: To utilize effectively an idle time during carriage return by outputting necessary information to an outputting device only during the carriage return action of a printing device and thereby knowing necessary information during operation by the output.

CONSTITUTION: A group of inputting keys 1 and a carriage return command key 2 that performs carriage return are connected to CPU3 of an electronic typewriter. In the CPU3, various arithmetic processing is performed by input signals from input key group 1 and a command key 2, and the various information is outputted to a printing device 4 or a display 5. Battery voltage of the apparatus is compared with reference voltage by a voltage detector 6, and if the battery voltage becomes lower than the reference voltage, it is reported to the CPU3. Necessary information such as the battery voltage is lower than the reference voltage is indicated in a display 5 only during the carriage return action of the printing device 4 to enable an operator to utilize effectively an idle time during carriage return.
