An imager 18, having an imaging surface to capture an optical image through a shutter mechanism 15 and a focus lens 16, outputs raw image data corresponding to the optical image. When the main power is turned on, a main CPU 36 opens the shutter mechanism 15 and restores the focus lens 16 from its retreat position, and thereafter adjusts settings of the focus lens 16. Image data in a YUV format based on the raw image data output from the imager 18 after a lens adjustment process is completed is recorded in a recording medium 48 under control of the main CPU 36. The lens adjustment process is limited pertaining to such an image recording process. The main CPU 36 closes the shutter mechanism 15 and retracts the focus lens 16 in a specific period within the limited period of the lens adjustment process which is different from a period in which the image data to be recorded is acquired.
