To enable two- or three-wire operation of a device in an electronic control system.
A power supply 150 can supply power to a closed circuit in both of two- and three-wire devices. Two separate zero-cross detectors are used so that timing information can be collected in both the two- and three-wire devices. Both the zero-cross detectors 110 are monitored and are used for composing electronic control automatically. An overvoltage circuit crosses a MOSFET in an off state to detect an overvoltage state. Preferably, the MOSFET is turned on to prevent an avalanche region from being reached. The overvoltage circuit detects an excess when current passing through the MOSFET exceeds a predetermined current threshold. Then, the MOSFET is turned off so that a safety operation range (SOA) curve of the MOSFET is not exceeded.
