To provide an ignition timing control method for rapidly raising the exhaust temperature after starting an engine to realize early activation of a catalyst.
The ignition timing value of an internal combustion engine is calculated by using a first correction term to calculate the ignition timing based on the control quantity without reflecting the target value and a second correction term to calculate the ignition timing based on the difference between the control quantity and the target value. Since the first correction term is calculated based on the control quantity without reflecting the target value, the feedback control quantity is not rapidly changed even in a circumference that the difference between the control quantity and the target value is changed step by step. The first correction term is a proportional term and the second correction term is an integration term. The control quantity is the engine speed to be detected by a detection means to detect the engine speed. Since the blow-up behavior of the engine speed when the engine is started is directly reflected in the proportional term, the ignition timing control according to the blow-up behavior can be performed, and the ignition timing can be smoothly transferred to the normal ignition timing.
