To provide an electronic device, a remote control system and a method of controlling the electronic device, capable of preventing incorrect operations under dark environment and when a back light is not lit.
A brightness sensor 116 is mounted in a remote controller 101. If it is determined that it is dark under operation environment when key operations of the remote controller 101 are performed by a detected value of the brightness sensor 116, the back light 115 is lit. In addition, when surrounding environment is smaller than a predetermined threshold and the back light 115 is not lit, transmission of a command signal from the remote controller 101 is invalidated. Thus, the malfunction of the keys when the remote controller 101 is operated without lighting the back light 115 at a dark place is prevented.
