The electronic document transmitting-receiving system has an electronic document transceiver and an authentication server interconnected via a public communication network. The document transceiver has a transmitter and a receiver. The transmitter reads or writes an IC card using an IC card reader-writer, reads a document to generate image data using a scanner, and conducts electronic signature. The receiver authenticates the electronic signature, and if its signer and the document are true after the authentication, outputs document data.
