PURPOSE: To provide an electronic editing device/method which prevents its misoperations and can perform the quick editing jobs.

CONSTITUTION: When a prescribed area to be edited is selected, the grips corresponding to the change attribute of the display size designate in the selected area are shown. Then all grips 31 to 38 are shown in an area that can be freely changed, and the square grips 31, 33, 36 and 38 are shown in a area where the display size can be changed with the vertical/horizontal ratio kept as it is. The grips 32 and 37 are shown in an area where the display size can be changed only in the vertical direction, and the grips 34 and 35 are shown in an area where the display size can be changed only in the horizontal direction.
