To provide electronic equipment having a memory free space notification function capable of intuitively, effectively, and precisely grasping memory free space without user's special consciousness, and to provide a notification method.
A portable telephone 100 executes the function regarding a change in the memory free space, thus determining whether the storage or deletion of user data is completed. When the storage or deletion of the user data is completed, the user is notified of the memory free space by allowing an LED 108 to emit light for specified time by using a luminescent color determined by a control circuit 112 according to the memory free space in a memory 105. On the other hand, when the portable telephone 100 is in a standby state, the LED 108 determines whether prescribed time according to the memory free space passes since the last emission to notify the memory free space in the memory 105. When the prescribed time passes, the emission according to the memory free space is performed.
