PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electronic musical instrument on which a user can play a melody, an accompaniment, or the like by simple operation.
SOLUTION: A PA pad P and fret switches FS are provided, and the user beats the pad P while pressing fret switches FS to produce musical sounds. In a melody 1 mode, one note event is read out at each time of pad operation, and the next sound is emitted simultaneously with muting of the preceding sound, and music tinged with legato is easily played. When necessary, a mute switch MS is operated to be able to play music tinged with staccato. In a melody 2 mode, a base mode, a chord 1 mode, and a chord 2 mode, a note event already read out from a memory at this time is emitted as sound at each time of pad operation. In an adlib mode, different high-pitched sounds are assigned to respective fret switches FS, and the pad P is operated while pressing one fret switch FS to emit a high-pitched musical sound assigned to this fret switch FS.
