Abstract:
In a functional gear checking machine for determining a number of gear characteristics, a composite signal from a linear voltage differential transformer is, after demodulation, fed to several types of processing circuits, each containing a memory and being arranged to separate the components of the composite signals to provide output signals representing the desired gear characteristics. These output signals are functions of the voltage between two reference levels, at least one of which is established by the associated signal processing circuit. The maximum signal excursion in a given direction is determined by means of a counter, e.g. 362, initially set to a value representing a magnitude greater than that excursion and coupled to a D/A converter e.g. 366, the analog output being compared with the signal in a comparator e.g. 376. Pulses from a clock 382 cause the counter 362 to count down until stopped by a comparator output 388 when the D/A converter output 386 ceases to exceed the signal 374.
