To provide a convenient electronic timepiece with reduced frequency of shift to power-saving mode.
The electronic timepiece is provided with an optical power generation means; a power storage means; a clock control means for clocking current time; and a time display means. The electronic timepiece is further provided with both a power storage voltage detection means for detecting a power storage voltage of the power storage means and an operation control part 300 for controlling the operating state of the time display means on the basis of a voltage value detected by the power storage voltage detection means. The operation control part 300 changes over between normal mode for making the time display means display current time clocked by the clock control means and power-saving mode for halting at least part of the time display means on the basis of detection results by the power storage voltage detection means. The operation control part 300 judges the shift from the normal mode to the power-saving mode on the basis of a first voltage reference value, a prescribed voltage reference value, and judges the shift from the power-saving mode to the normal mode on the basis of a second voltage reference value set at a higher voltage value than the first voltage reference value.
