To provide an electronic timepiece which can brightly display time in an easy-to-see state and can variously change the displaying form of information, such as numeric numbers, etc., and the background color.

An electronic timepiece is provided with a polarizing plate 11, a liquid crystal panel 8, and a polarizing and splitting film 12. The film 12 has such a function that transmits linearly polarized light in one direction and reflect the other linearly polarized light. The inside of the film 12 is planarly divided by a plurality of polarizing and splitting sections 12a, 12b, and 12c having different wavelength characteristics with respect to the light reflecting function. Reflected light rays from the film 12 are displayed in different colors in accordance with the sections 12a-12c. Since this reflection type polarizing and splitting film 12 is used, a bright displaying state can be realized and, since the polarizing and splitting sections 12a-12c are provided in the film 12, the displaying form of the timepiece can be diversified.
