PURPOSE: To shorten a total line feed processing time and to suppress the noise caused by backlash removing operation and the shift or scew of paper by once performing backlash removing operation finally regardless of the number of rotation corresponding to any line quantity of a platen motor.
CONSTITUTION: Even if the quantity of rotation of a platen corresponds to any line quantity, backlash is not accumulated. Only when a flag is in an ON state and a character key designating printing or a function key designating erasure is inputted, backlash removing operation is performed. At first, a platen motor is rotated in the direction shown by an arrow D by predetermined quantity slightly larger than the quantity capable of removing the backlash 62. Whereupon, even if an output gear 54 and a speed reducing gear 56 are not brought to a contact state at a point, both gears 54, 56 are brought to a point contact state. Then, the platen motor is reversely rotated in the direction shown by an arrow C by the same quantity as the predetermined quantity to bring the output gear 54 and the speed reducing gear 56 to a contact state at a point 58. By this constitution, even if the platen is again rotated after printing, the reduction of the quantity of rotation of the platen caused by backlash 63 can be prevented.
