PURPOSE: To omit setting of initial values etc., by detecting the phase information of wheel train plurally, and controlling an electric counter.

CONSTITUTION: Between a wheel train 5 and an electric counter 8 is provided a shot multivibrator composed of NOR gate 701, capacitor 702, variable resistance 703, and inverter 705, and a phase detecting means composed of AND gate 706, counter 707, and a protrusion 704 which cooperates with the hour hand or the minute hand. According to the rotation of the hour hand or minute hand, the protrusion 704 moves, and the output resistance value of the variable resistance 703 varies stepwise, so that the counting of the counter 707 changes with the hour or the minute. And an hour or a minute counter 83, 82 is controlled, so that the setting of initial value is not necessary. Besides, when the counter of the mechanical system is changed, the electric counter 8 is automatically changed in its content in synchronism.
