Abstract:
To provide a valve assembly for an internal combustion engine capable of providing control of a higher-degree for a valve lift and valve landing, by using less motive power for actuation, by occupying a smaller space than a hydraulic or electromagnetic actuator.
This electronically actuated valve assembly 200 for the internal combustion engine has a valve stem 202, a shape memory alloy actuator 206 in operative communication with the valve stem 202, a coolant passage 222 passing through at least a portion of the shape memory alloy actuator 206, and a cooling fluid source 223 in communication with the coolant passage 222.
