To provide an electrophoretic display device capable of improving contrast.
A back substrate 52 provided with a transparent electrode 54 and a transparent substrate 53 provided with transparent electrodes 551 to 553 are arranged at a prescribed interval D. Many microcapsules 56A are arranged between the transparent substrate 53 and the back substrate 52. In each of the microcapsules 56A, a dispersion liquid obtained by dispersing electrophoretic particles 57 into a dispersion medium 61 is individually sealed in advance with a microcapsulation technique. The plurality of microcapsules 56A are sandwiched between the transparent substrate 53 and the back substrate 52, and the display surface side and the back side thereof are flat shapes.
