Abstract:

To provide an electrophoretic particle having targeted dispersibility and chargeability regardless of a type of a base material particle, a manufacturing method of an electrophoretic particle capable of manufacturing the electrophoretic particle having such characteristics, a highly reliable electrophoretic dispersion liquid using the electrophoretic particle, an electrophoretic sheet, an electrophoretic apparatus and an electronic apparatus.

An electrophoretic particle 1 includes a base particle 2 and a coating layer 3 covering at least part of the base particle 2. The coating layer 3 includes: a shell body 31 made of an organic polymer and wrapping the base particle 2 in a cell-like fashion; and a polymer 32 binding to a surface of the shell body 31. The polymer 32 is obtained by polymerizing monomers by living radical polymerization originating from a polymerization initiating group.
