To achieve humidity adjustment of an electrophotographic image forming apparatus while miniaturizing a humidity adjustment device without requiring water storage parts which store water for humidifying and water from dehumidifying, to maintain the humidity in the image forming apparatus constant for a long time even in the state where the humidity adjustment device is brought into a non-operation state, thereby saving power.
By applying voltages to a first porous electrode 24 and a second porous electrode 25 disposed on both sides of a solid high-polymer electrolytic film 21 and switching the polarity of each voltage to be applied, the humidity in a casing member 16 surrounding an electrifying means 15 can be adjusted to fall in an appropriate range. A humidity adjustment mechanism for adjusting humidity which includes the solid high-polymer electrolytic film 21 and the first and second porous electrodes 24 and 25, is characterised in that it can be disposed using a part of the casing member 16 without requiring an extra installation space therefor, and, even in the case where the humidity adjustment mechanism is provided, the image forming apparatus can be miniaturized.
