Abstract:
PURPOSE: To obtain an electrorheological fluid excellent in dispersion stability and heat stability, etc., and useful for a clutch, a valve, etc., by dispersing high molecular complex fine particles obtained by coating a specific high molecu lar solid electrolyte over porous high molecular fine particles in an electrically insulating fluid.
CONSTITUTION: This electrorheological fluid comprises dispersing (A) high molecular complex fine particles obtained by coating (i) a high molecular solid electrolyte obtained by neutralizing an organopolysiloxane containing a polyether and carboxylic acid in its side chain with a base containing a mono- or di-valent metal, preferably the compound of the formula [R1 is an alkyl; R2, R3 are each an alkylene; P is an aromatic carboxylic acid; (l) is 0 or a positive integer] over (ii) porous high molecular fine particles (preferably a spherical polymer crosslinked with an unsaturated polyester having adjusted pores and specific gravity) in (B) an electrically insulating fluid (preferably a diorganopolysiloxane oil).
