PURPOSE: To obtain a fluid which exhibits excellent electrorheological at low current densities, and in the complete absence of absorbed water or water of hydration, the fluid being comprising a suspension liquid of dielectric liquid phase and dispersing particle phase consisting of electric conductive crystalline substance.

CONSTITUTION: The fluid is obtained by admixing (A) preferably hydrophobic and insulating dielectric liquid phase, (B) dispersible fine particle phase consisting of crystalline substance which conduct current along only one axis of three crystalline axis, and preferably additional (C) suspension stabilizer of block polymer and graft copolymer, (D) stereo stabilizer of amino- functionalized polydimethylsiloxane.
