This electrostatic air cleaner is constituted of a fan 5 installed as an air generating source, an ion wind generation part consisting of an ionizing electrode 3 and an earth electrode 4 forming a high electric field between both electrodes 3, 4, a dust sensor 7 detecting the density of dust in air and a control part 12 driving the fan 5 when the density of dust detected by the dust sensor 7 becomes a predetermined value or more and stopping the fan when the density of dust detected by the dust sensor 7 is below the predetermined value.
