Abstract:

PURPOSE: To provide an electrostatic charging roll capable of advantageously preventing the preferential chipping of the thin part of the photosensitive layer of a photoreceptor at the time of voltage impression and effectively preventing the occurrence of a electrostatic charging defect and electric discharge destruction in the contact part of the photosensitive layer of the photoreceptor with the thin part occurring in such chipping of the photosensitive layer.
CONSTITUTION: The outer peripheral surface of a shaft body 12 is provided with a base layer 14 composed of an ion conductive elastic material having volume resistivity of 106 to 109Ωcm and the outer peripheral surface of this base layer 14 is provided with an electrode layer 16 composed of an electron conductive synthetic resin material having volume resistivity of 104Ωcm in the part exclusive of at least one end in the axial direction of the base layer 14, by which the parts not provided with the electrode layer 16 are formed over a prescribed length at least at one end in such axial direction. Further, the outer peripheral surfaces of the part provided with the electrode layer 16 and the parts not provided with the electrode layer 16 are provided with resistance control layers 18 and protective layers 20 from the inner side to the outer side of the diametral direction of the roll.
