PURPOSE: To prepare an electrostatic image developing carrier not causing sweeping streaks, roughening, or crushing of characters on a formed image by specifying saturation magnetization and a content of metallic iron, and coating the carrier with a resin.
CONSTITUTION: The carrier has 50W150emu/g saturation magnetization and 1W 50wt% metallic iron content, and the core particles thereof are coated with a resin. The core particles of said electrostatic image developing carrier are obtained by melt oxidizing commercially available pulverized type of iron powder in oxidative flames, e.g., using a combustion device 1. As said coating resin, epoxy, polyamide, acrylic, styrene, and the like resin are usable. A preferable coat thickness is 0.1W20μm. Natural oxidation of the metallic iron is hindered with such a resin coat, said content and saturation magnetization can be retained, and stable performance is obtained.
