To provide an electrostatic speaker capable of achieving desired directional characteristics.

The electrostatic speaker has an electrode, and a sheet-like oscillator that is arranged separately opposite to the electrode and is displaced according to a potential difference to the electrode. The oscillator should have prescribed surface density distribution. The shape of the surface density distribution can be decided based on a directivity suppression pattern, or the like in the oscillator. In an ideal example, surface density is increased as the edge of the oscillator comes near. For the shape of the surface density distribution, for example an equal surface density line is concentrical. The oscillator may be composed of a plurality of oscillation sections having different surface density each.
