Abstract:
PURPOSE: To reduce the change of a transmission factor by incorporating hydroxy L ions of a specified content and oxygen of less than a stoichiometric content into high-purity synthetic quartz glass forming the element.
CONSTITUTION: This element is made of high-purity synthetic quartz glass, composed of a light transmission section arranged between a light convergence area having a cured light incident surface and a light radiation area having a curved light radiation surface and formed in a conical shape in which the light convergence area and/or light radiation area are tapered towards the direction of the light transmission section. The quartz glass contains 50-1200 ppm of hydroxyl ions and because of a lower oxygen content than a stoichiometric content, possibility to generate 'a defect caused by excessive oxygen' is decreased when high-energy density light with the wavelength of from 250 to 400 nm passes. Further, even when the accumulation of the defects are gradually generated, repair can be made by the hydroxyl ions in the glass. When the high-energy density light passes, since the formation of the defects is balanced with the repair of the defects, the change of the transmission factor is a little.
