This elevating device is provided with an elevation operating means capable of operating the-up-and down movement of the resting part 1 of a rested body roughly in a parallel attitude between a lowering position close to the ground and a lifting position roughly identical in height to the floor surface of a vehicle, and with a receiving body 27 provided for the resting part 1 capable of freely and manually making change-over between a movement checking attitude for receiving and checking the movement of the rested body outward from the resting part 1 and a movement allowable attitude permitting the rested body to be moved outward. And an operation prohibing means 37 checking change-over to be manually made between the movement checking attitude and the movement allowable attitude, is so provided as to let a checking action be released when the position of the resting part 1 with respect to the vehicle comes to a position equivalent to the lowering position.
