To provide an elevator device capable of reducing a shock to be applied to a car when braking in an emergency.
A hoistway 1 is provided with a motor 3 for generating the torque for elevating the car 8, a brake device 6 for generating braking force for braking elevation of the car 8, an encoder 18 for detecting speed of the car 8, and a control device 19 for controlling each of the motor 3 and the brake device 6 on the basis of information from the encoder 18. The control device 19 is structured to control the brake device to perform braking operation when braking in an emergency. Control of the motor 3 by the control device 19 when braking in an emergency is performed with a low level emergency control mode for stopping the generation of torque after operating brake in the case wherein speed of the car 8 is a low speed set value or less when starting emergency brake, and performed with a high level emergency control mode for stopping the generation of torque at the same time with braking operation in the case wherein the speed of the car 8 is larger than the low speed set value when starting emergency brake.
