To provide an elevator operating system which can keep an elevator inoperative and generate an alarm to the outside by detecting wire breakage in the non-stopping switch or the stopping switch of an elevator.

When the wire of a non-stopping switch is broken, relays 3, 4 turn off and a relay 5 turns on. When the relay 5 turns on, a contact is closed and a command is given to an inoperative circuit in an elevator, and an alarm signal is given to an outside alarm device. When the wire of the non-stopping switch or the stopping switch is broken, the elevator becomes inoperative and an alarm is given to the outside, so that the elevator does not stop at the floor where nobody is allowed to enter, thereby preventing generation of a crime such as theft.
