PURPOSE: To make chambers a saddle shape regardless of a diameter size of an elongation roll and to improve the flatness accuracy by a succeeding camber correction roll by flattening a metal strip by pressing the strip by the elongation roll whose peripheral speed is controlled compared with the peripheral speed of a deflector roll.
CONSTITUTION: In the case of pressing a metal strip 1 being transferred on front and rear deflector rolls 3 by an intermediate elongation roll 2, if the dia. of the roll 2 is large, the strip 1 tends to have saddle-shaped cambers depending on a relation between elongations in the width and longitudinal directions. If the dia. of the roll 2 is small, the strip 1 tends to have bowl-shaped cambers, so that flattening by the succeeding correction roll is difficult. The detected number of rotations of the deflector rolls 3 by a measuring instrument 6 is converted into a peripheral speed by a computing element 7, the number of rotations of a motor 5 is controlled to bring cambers of the strip 1 to tend to have a saddle shape by adjusting the peripheral speed of the roll 2. Therefore, the flatness accuracy by the succeeding correction roll is improved. Also, a peripheral speed adjustment by a reinforcing roll 4 for the roll 2 is adaptable.
