To provide a method for surely restraining elution of phosphorus from sea area bottom sediment.
This method restrains elution of phosphoric acid condition phosphorus (PO4-P) into sea water by using a covering material mainly composed of steel slag for the sea area bottom sediment. The sea area bottom sediment of a covering expected sear area is sampled up to the predetermined depth from a bottom sediment surface, and the thickness of the sear area bottom sediment having influence on the elution of the phosphorus is estimated, and by a simulation test, a change with the lapse of time of pH of pore water or just above water of the covering material mainly composed of the steel slag is measured after covering the sampled sea area bottom sediment with the covering material mainly composed of the steel slag. A quantity of covering material mainly composed of the steel slag per sea area bottom sediment unit quantity required for maintaining the pH in a predetermined value of 8.3 to 9.5, is determined, and the sear area bottom sediment of the covering expected area is covered with the covering material mainly composed of the steel slag, based on this determined quantity.
