To easily discriminate a state by an operator by displaying a first state image and a second state image on the same image screen so that display shapes of both images become different.

A display 44 is constituted by using, for example, a liquid crystal. When pushing down a pattern selecting key 54 of a pattern selecting device 50 in response to a selecting character and a pattern, the character and the pattern are displayed on a pattern selecting image screen of the display 44. When pushing a memory key of a function key 56, the pattern is stored. Then, the next pattern and character can be selected. Next when pushing a sewing position key of a sewing position correcting key 52, the display 44 changes to a layout display image screen, and a sewable range and a pattern area are displayed together with a needle position, so that the pattern area can be moved by (↑, ↓, ←, →) keys. An operator can easily discriminate a state by such a display.
