To provide an emergency brake device detecting the speed of a rope with a sensor when raising and lowering a load and capable of automatically braking when detecting an abnormal speed.
The emergency brake device operates to prohibit movement of a wire when a moving speed of the wire exceeds a permissible value and comprises: a base member 3 for insertion of the wire; an upper roller 5; a lower roller 7; a speed detecting means 19 which comprises a rotation support member 11, stop rollers 13, 15 and a rotation control part for rotating the rotation support member in one direction and detects abnormality in the speed of the wire moving in a normal movement path; an upper locking means; a lower roller detecting means; a rotation prohibiting means. In a process that the rotation support member rotates, one of the stop rollers passes below the upper roller while winding up the wire, and the other stop roller presses the lower roller to move the same in one direction along a track.
