This emergency braking device of a passenger conveyor has a driving device composed of a driving machine 3, a driving machine side driving chain gear 3a, a main shaft side driving chain gear 5 and a driving chain 4. Its engagement is separated in rupture of the driving chain 4 by always engaging with the driving chain 4. The lever 11 displaced for braking the passenger conveyor in an emergency, has the ratchet pole 12 for engaging with a ratchet wheel 6 fitted and fixed to a main shaft 2 and braking the passenger conveyor in an emergency by checking rotation of the main shaft 2, the interlocking shaft 13 for connecting and interlocking this ratchet pole 12 and the lever 11, and the bearing part 15 for journaling this interlocking shaft 13. A bearing hole of the bearing part 15 is formed in a hole diameter larger than a shaft diameter of the interlocking shaft 13, and a pressing tool is installed in the bearing part 15 for preventing rattling of the interlocking shaft 13 in the bearing hole.
