Abstract:
To provide detection and classification of emergency vehicle audio alerts that use audio captured by microphones of an autonomous or semi-autonomous machine to identify directions of travel, locations, and/or types of emergency response vehicles in the environment.SOLUTION: A plurality of microphone arrays are disposed on an autonomous or semi-autonomous machine and used to generate audio signals corresponding to sounds in the environment. The audio signals are processed to determine a location and/or a direction of travel of an emergency response vehicle. To identify siren types, the audio signals are used to generate a representation of a frequency spectrum processed using a deep neural network that outputs a probability of an alert type represented by audio data. The location, the direction of travel, and/or the siren type allow an ego vehicle or an ego machine to identify the emergency response vehicle and make planning and/or control decisions in response.SELECTED DRAWING: Figure 1A
