To provide an emergency state detector capable of correctly detecting an emergency state in a traveling automobile by detecting the motion itself of feet of a driver which is largely different between a normal state and an emergency state, and detecting the emergency state based on the result of detection.
The emergency state detector 10 includes a computer 12 and an acceleration sensor 14, and is used for a brake device 110 of an automobile or the like. In the brake device 110 of the automobile, the computer 12 detects the emergency state in the traveling automobile 120 based on the output of the acceleration sensor 14 mounted at the feet of a driver of the automobile 120. The computer 12 sends the signal to a brake actuator 16 when detecting the emergency state to forcibly decelerate the automobile 120.
