To reduce the possibility of injury when a finger by which an emergency stop button is pressed is pulled out by eliminating a recovering operation for an emergency stop button cover when the emergency stop button of an escalator is pressed.

Radially extending slits 2 are formed in the emergency stop button cover 1 for covering the emergency stop button of the escalator at positions facing the pressing surface of the emergency stop button. The emergency stop button cover 1 is formed of an elastic material such as a rubber. The emergency stop button cover 1 is held by a cover holding body 5. The emergency stop button cover 1 has a flexibility that it can reach the emergency stop button when a user of the escalator presses it by the finger. During an emergency, when the emergency stop button cover 1 is pressed by the finger in the direction of depressing the stop button, the finger reaches the emergency stop button. By further pressing it, the escalator can be stopped. When the finger is pulled out, the emergency stop button cover 1 is recovered to the original state.
