Abstract:
PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To effectively control desorbed HC while stabilizing the engine speed even in idling or in cooling.
SOLUTION: A circulating flow rate adjusting valve 9 capable of adjusting the circulating flow rate of desorbed HC is arranged on the way of a circulating passage 8 for circulating the desorbed HC from a honeycomb body 5 carrying an absorbent to an intake pipe 15 of an engine 1, the circulating flow rate adjusting valve 9 is driven in idling of the engine 1 or in cooling, and the circulating flow rate of exhaust gas harmful component of the desorbed HC is limited to the prescribed value. Therefore, the desorbed HC is again burnt while stabilizing the engine speed.
